Know the difference between Proof (PF) and Mint (MS) or Busines Strikes, The Proof Strike is Superior and made for the Collector. Once a Proof, always a Proof. Also what gives the Proof more value is the grading and minting status: “1st day of strike” , “One of First 1500 Struck”, and any number within that value of coins struck. Those that are signed by “Mercanti” or other designers add to the value. These all weigh into the value of the Proof. They are of more value and made as described below. The Proof Strike (PF) is struck several times on a highly polished planchet giving the fields a mirrored effect and the image a beautiful frosted look. They are from the start of the process, designed for the collector, and given the best strike. The Mint Stike or Business Stike are coins that are minted for the purpose of wide distribution, and no special strike is given to it. Thus you will see MS70, MS69, etc. A PF70 is superior to the MS70 from the start. Ultra Cameo (UC) is a designation that applies only to proof (PF) coins. It is the measure of the contrast between the frosted devices (raised portions of the design) and the mirrored fields (the flatter areas of the coin). The Proof I have for sale is a PF70 Ultra Cameo “One of First 1500 Struck”. These are before the Early Releases which are all those struck within the first month. Thesed do not carry the value of those such as the one I have for sale. Extremely Low Mintage (#719 OFF THE PRESS). These are of a much higher value of those shown as “Early Releases”. Only 1500 in existence and once the Collector gets his hand on it, it will become more rare, as they don’t tend to sell them. Or if they are listed, there prices are very high. Please try to understand you cannot compare a Proof to a Mint Strike as a Proof is made for Collectors and struck with Superior Technology whereby Mint Strikes are also known as Business Strikes and are struck with lower technology.
