Australia’s most beloved and collected bird, the Kookaburra, is captured in a deeply sunken, incuse design in one troy ounce of pure silver, highlighted in luxurious rose-gold plating! It’s a little hard to tell from the mint-supplied images, but the design of this superb Kookaburra coin is sunken into the coin, and sunken deeply! That’s what “super incused strike technology” is a fancy way of saying. And the kooka is highlighted in beautiful rose-gold plating, making this wildlife gem even more desirable! In hand, the sunken design of this super-incused Kookaburra doesn’t disappoint! The Kookaburra is Australia’s most beloved bird, as well as its most collected numismatic icon, so snap this one up before it flies away! What’s So Funny? The kookaburra is easily the best known bird of Australia. There are actually four species of kookaburra found in Australia and New Guinea. All are members of the Kingfisher family. Far and away the most familiar is the Laughing Kookaburra. Kookaburras are famous for their unmistakable call, which sounds uncannily like loud, echoing human laughter -good-natured, if rather hysterical, merriment in the case of the Laughing Kookaburra; and maniacal cackling in the case of the slightly smaller Blue-Winged Kookaburra. The word “kookaburra” is borrowed from an aboriginal word of the Wiradjura language, “guuguubarra”, which is onomatopoeic of (replicates) the avian’s call. They eat lizards, snakes, insects, mice and raw meat. The more socialized birds will accept handouts from humans and will take raw or cooked meat from open-air barbecues left unattended-so don’t leave your shrimp on the barbie! Kookas are territorial, and often live with the partly grown chicks of the previous season. The notoriety of the kookaburra’s laugh, as well as its nervy antics, has been spread worldwide by the popular children’s song “Kookaburra” by Marion Sinclair. That poem can be found lower in this listing. A friendly kookaburra, highlighted in selective rose-gold plating, observes us observing it. The legend KOOKABURRA defines the theme, while the legend 1 OZ 999 PURE SILVER guarantees the weight and purity. A trio of adult red kangaroos begins their passage across a desolate stretch of the Great Australian Desert, while an Inland Taipan snake lurks in its rocky habitat and the sun bakes the landscape with its merciless rays. This one troy ounce pure silver proof is enhanced by artistic application of rose-gold plating. And so begins your great Australian adventure, into the unforgiving Outback! This pure silver gem is a sizzling hot testament to the wide-open spaces, forbidding landscape, and unique animal life that exist in just one place on Earth-the Great Australian Desert! This breathtaking design represents your chance to add a piece of Australia’s Outback to your collection! The Great Australian Desert is the inland region of Australia, with some serious heat and very little rain. It’s HUGE-it covers more than 35% of the Land Down Under. The intense heat bakes the earth, making the very air shimmer and mirages appear. It’s all otherworldly. Very little rain visits the interior. With 40% of Australia covered by dunes, it’s the driest inhabited continent, with the least fertile soils. Not surprisingly, the Great Australian Desert is sparsely inhabited-Australia has a population more than 26 million people, but less than 3% (fewer than 800,000 folks) live in the vast regions of the Outback desert. Also not surprisingly, the Great Australian Desert sports the largest population of feral camels in the world! On this unique coin, pure silver kangaroos bound across the red sand expanse of the mythic Outback, as a meticulously detailed Inland Taipan snake lies in wait in the foreground, and the merciless sun radiates its rose gold rays across the horizon. Make this dramatic and striking one troy ounce pure silver proof yours today! The Great Australian Desert. The Great Australian desert, or Outback, stretches across the arid interior of Australia, a varied collection of stark rock outcroppings juxtaposed with hauntingly barren red sands that lend the landscape an otherworldly aura. In fact, American astronaut Buzz Aldrin remarked that the deserts in Australia appeared similar to those where humanity may one day venture-on Mars. At once harsh and beautiful, this ancient land has been home to Australia’s Indigenous Aboriginal peoples for upwards of 50,000 years, as witnessed by their rock paintings and petroglyphs. The incomparable sense of space is witness to some of the most unique animals on earth, including kangaroos, wallabies, emus-as well as more dangerous inhabitants like the Inland Taipan Snake (lurking in the foreground; read on below). The Inland Taipan Snake-The Deadliest in the World! The venom of the Inland Taipan is by far the most toxic of any snake in the world, much more so than even that of sea snakes, and it has the most toxic venom of any reptile when tested on human heart cell cultures. The Inland Taipan is a specialist hunter of mammals, so its venom is specially adapted to kill warm-blooded prey. One bite possesses enough lethality to kill more than 100 adult humans. It is an extremely fast and agile snake that can strike instantly and with extreme accuracy, often biting multiple times in the same attack, with a nearly 100% rate of envenomation. The scene is enhanced by artistic application of rose-gold plating, while the legend GREAT AUSTRALIAN DESERT indicates the theme. The public seal (coat of arms) of the island nation of Niue. The coin is encapsulated inside a luxurious clamshell-style presentation case, lined with black velvet and satin, and protected by a full color outer cardboard box.
