Ian Rank-Broadley’s famous right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II graces the obverse. The image, which has appeared on coinage for more than two decades, shows the monarch wearing a tiara and earrings. Rank-Broadley’s initials, “IRB, ” are inscribed at the base of the design. The monarch’s name, “ELIZABETH II, ” joins the name of the issuing country, “NIUE, ” the coin’s face value, “FINE DOLLARS, ” and the date, “2020, ” on the rim. The reverse features a striking look at Fafnir, the Norse Dragon. The colorful beast, which has a reputation for greed and treachery, shows its fangs while Sigurd slays it. An inscription in the lower left notes the coin’s weight and purity, 2 OZ 999 FINE SILVER. The coin comes in its original packaging from the New Zealand Mint.
