In this design you will find the “Owl of Athena” on a hammered finish background making these a BU quality coin. The Athenian Owl originates in ancient Greek mythology, the goddess Athena kept an owl (her patron animal) on her shoulder that revealed truths to her and represented wisdom and knowledge. The symbol of Athena’s owl was eventually used on currency, the Athenian tetradrachms. On the obverse the Owl is standing right, head facing with an olive spring & berry behind on the left along with crescent for the moon in upper left field and “AOE” to the right. Finishing out the design is the weight and purity designation curved around the bottom 1 OZ. The reverse then features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadly on a hammered background along with the inscriptions of “ELIZABETH II” , the country of issue “NIUE” , the year date “2019″ , denomination “TWO DOLLARS”. The coin is embellished with Gold plating, has a Proof quality and comes with an elegant case, along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage to only 999 pieces worldwide! The reverse of the coin depicts the great St. George standing tall with his lance, probably after killing the dragon. The coin is designed to match the original Saint George painting by Carlo Crivelli, located in the Italian Metropolitan Museum. The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: ELIZABETH II the name of the Queen, NIUE the issue country and 5 DOLLARS the face value and 2014 the year of issue.
