Speed of Light Since ancient times, philosophers and scholars have sought to understand light. In addition to trying to discern its basic properties i. What is it made of particle or wave, etc. They have also sought to make finite measurements of how fast it travels. Since the late-17th century, scientists have been doing just that, and with increasing accuracy. In so doing, they have gained a better understanding of lights mechanics and the important role it plays in physics, astronomy and cosmology. Put simply, light moves at incredible speeds and is the fastest moving thing in the Universe. Its speed is considered a constant and an unbreakable barrier, and is used as a means of measuring distance. But just how fast does it travel? Light travels at a constant speed of 1,079,252,848.8 (1.07 billion) km per hour. That works out to 299,792,458 m/s, or about 670,616,629 mph (miles per hour). To put that in perspective, if you could travel at the speed of light, you would be able to circumnavigate the globe approximately seven and a half times in one second. Meanwhile, a person flying at an average speed of about 800 km/h (500 mph), would take over 50 hours to circle the planet just once. The speed of light in vacuum, commonly denoted c, is a universal physical constant important in many areas of physics. Its exact value is 299792458 metres per second (approximately 3.00×108 m/s, approximately 186,282 mi/s); it is exact since the length of the metre is defined from this constant and the international standard for time. According to special relativity, c is the maximum speed at which all matter and hence information in the universe can travel. It is the speed at which all massless particles and changes of the associated fields (including electromagnetic radiation such as light, and gravitational waves) travel in vacuum. Such particles and waves travel at c regardless of the motion of the source or the inertial reference frame of the observer. In the theory of relativity, c interrelates space and time, and also appears in the famous equation of massenergy equivalence E = mc2. The speed of light in vacuum is usually denoted by a lowercase c, for “constant” or the Latin celeritas (meaning “swiftness, celerity”). Historically, the symbol V was used as an alternative symbol for the speed of light, introduced by James Clerk Maxwell in 1865. In 1856, Wilhelm Eduard Weber and Rudolf Kohlrausch had used c for a different constant later shown to equal 2 times the speed of light in vacuum. In 1894, Paul Drude redefined c with its modern meaning. Einstein used V in his original German-language papers on special relativity in 1905, but in 1907 he switched to c, which by then had become the standard symbol for the speed of light. In July of 2016 the new series is being launched by the Mint of Poland on behalf of Niue called “Code of the Future” from 1st coin Artificial Intelligence which deals with cutting-edge scientific advancements of recent years and decades such as virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and robotics, among others. The reverse of the Speed of Light coin design shows the speed of light (particles of light) with colored turning lines like electromagnetic waves/wires. Also the reverse shows numbers of the speed of light of 299792458 metres per second and fliying name of the coin “Speed of Light”. The obverse of the coin has a reduced-sized effigy of Queen Elizabeth by Ian Rank-Broadley and a very futuristic design with fliyng lines, particles of light and electromagnetic waves without color. It has a diameter of 50 millimeters and a weight of 62.2 grams. Of special interest is the application of fluorescent ultra violet (UV) coloring on the lines of light on the reverse that makes the coin glow in the dark. It is best to put the coin under a light source for 30 seconds and then place it in the dark to see it glow. The coin has its serial number on the coin and the certificate of authenticity and comes in a luxurious wooden box and a colorful shipper. Extremely high international collectible demand.
