The Imperial Fabergé Eggs series is a continuation of tradition having its roots at the Russian court in the second half of the 19th century. The inspiration for this collection were the renowned eggs created to order of tsars Nicholas II and Alexander III. For over 100 years these jewellery masterpieces have been a symbol of extravagance and luxury. The Moscow Kremlin Egg was an Easter gift from the last Tsar of Russia, Nicholas II, to his wife Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna. The design of the egg was inspired by the architecture of the Cathedral of the Dormition in the Moscow Kremlin, the traditional place of Russian tsars coronation. The Moscow Kremlin Egg, which is the largest of the famous Fabergé Eggs, was manufactured to commemorate the return of the imperial couple to the capital in 1903. The Moscow Kremlin Egg have never left Russia. At present it is housed in one of the oldest Moscow museums the Kremlin Armoury. In the central part a stylized image of the Cathedral of the Dormition which is located in the Moscow Kremlin. Along the internal rim the name of the Fabergé Egg: MOSCOW KREMLIN EGG. In the upper and lower part of the coin neo-rococo ornaments decorated with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS. Above the basket the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with an inscription: ELIZABETH II and the mint mark (m/w). Around a decorative, neo-rococo ornament. Along the rim the issuers name: NIUE ISLAND, the face value: 2 DOLLARS, the hallmark (Ag 925) and the year of issue 2014. Decorated with Swarovski stones. Partially embellished with 24ct gold. The “Chapels” series includes the most famous and beautiful chapels in the world. The “Iverskaya chapel” coin is the first coin in the series. This chapel at the Resurrection Gate was one of the most honoured of Moscow’s holy places. The coin reverse depicts a coloured rappresentation of Iverskaya chapel, on the background engraved image of Resurrection (Voskresenskyie) Gate on the Red Square in Moscow, inscriptions: “IVERSKAYA CHAPEL” and “MOSCOW”. The coin obverse depicts a coloured design of Archangel Michael in the dome of the chapel, effigy of Elisabeth II, Inscriptions: “Niue Island”, “Elisabeth II” and “1 dollar” as well as “2012″. Iverskaya Chapel The Iverskaya Chapel at the Resurrection Gate was one of the most honoured of Moscow’s holy places. For the protection of the icon from the wind and rain a small wooden shed has been made and later, in 1680, a chapel was built. A wooden chapel was rebuilt in 1746, and became the final form in 1791 when it was rebuilt in stone by architect Matvey Kazakov. In 1929 the chapel was closed and demolished in one night from 28 to 29 July 1929. In November 1994, Patriarch Alexy II blessed the chapel, 1995 the chapel was opened again.
