Spartacus is the first coin in a brand new Poland Mint series called Great Commanders. Spartacus was an arranger and a leader of the biggest slave uprising in ancient Rome 73-71 p. He created an army, which opposed rules of those days but in the end it was fought down by Mark Krassus, Roman chief. Reverse In stunning high relief, Spartacus is shown fighting on his horse with the Roman army. In the background we can see slaves and gladiators assisting his leader. Discreet red gold accents imitating blood on insurgents knives adds additional life and realism to the scene. 62.2 (2 oz). This marvellous 2 Oz Silver Coin is the first issue in the new Great Commanders series dedicated to some of the greatest commanders in history. In this edition – Spartacus. The coin has a wonderful High Relief, has a beautiful Red-Gold plating and comes in an themed wooden case, along with the Certificate of Authenticity. Limited mintage to only 99 pieces worldwide! The reverse of the coin features Spartacus fighting on his horse followed by the Roman army. Some details of the coin are emphasized by Red-Gold plating to reproduce the blood poured in battle. On the bottom of the reverse, the inscription: SPARTACUS the name of the coin. The obverse of the coin features map with the movements of the commanders army and depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. All around the obverse the inscriptions: ELIZABETH II the name of the Queen, NIUE the issue country, 2017 the year of issue and 5 DOLLARS the issuing country. Spartacus Spartacus was a Thracian gladiator who, along with the Gauls Crixus, Gannicus, Castus, and Oenomaus, was one of the escaped slave leaders in the Third Servile War, a major slave uprising against the Roman Republic. Little is known about Spartacus beyond the events of the war, and surviving historical accounts are sometimes contradictory and may not always be reliable. However, all sources agree that he was a former gladiator and an accomplished military leader. This rebellion, interpreted by some as an example of oppressed people fighting for their freedom against a slave-owning oligarchy, has provided inspiration for many political thinkers, and has been featured in literature, television, and film. Although this interpretation is not specifically contradicted by classical historians, no historical account mentions that the goal was to end slavery in the Republic.
