2019 Crown of Thorns. 2 oz Biblical Series 0.999 Fine Silver. Includes COA and packaging. Still in original shrink wrapped plastic – never opened. Limited mintage of 1,499 coins. Only 2nd coin since 2016 to sell out at the Mint! Based on Gustave Doré’s illustration inspired by Mark 15:16-19. It refers to the moment when Roman soldiers mocked Jesus for the claims of his supporters who believed he was the new King of the Jews. The soldiers dressed Jesus in purple robes and wove a crown of thorn branches that was forced onto his head. Throughout his trial and crucifixion, he bled from the forced crown of thorns. On the reverse of 2019 2 oz Crown of Thorns Biblical Silver Coins, you can see Jesus seated in the center of the design as several soldiers mockingly “crown” him as the new King of the Jews. It is said the soldiers shouted “Hail, King of the Jews” to him and knelt down in mock worship before spitting on him. Each coin is packaged in a gift box reminiscent of the Bible and includes a numbered certificate of authenticity that matches the laser etched number on the rim of the coin.
