The coin is dedicated to Trilobites, a fossil group of extinct marine arthropods that form the class Trilobita. Struck from 2 oz silver 999 with 3,7 mm high relief, the coin is fully plated with ruthenium and selectively plated with 24K gold. It come housed in a stylized presentation case with a CoA inside. The worldwide mintage is quite low – only 666 pieces. The traditional obverse of a Niue coin contains a relief effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II surrounded by the following inscriptions: the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin, its issuing country and year. Superior craftsmanship combined with ruthenium and gold plating result in quite realistic fossil-like piece. Trilobites are remarkable, hard-shelled, segmented creatures that existed over 520 million years ago in the Earth’s ancient seas.
