4x 1 Oz (124.40g total). The great or classic era of piracy in the Caribbean extends from around 1560 up until the mid 1720s. The period during which pirates were most successful was from 1700 until the 1730s. Caribbean piracy arose out of, and mirrored on a smaller scale, the conflicts over trade and colonisation among the rival European powers of the time, including the empires of Britain, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal and France. Most of these pirates were of English, Dutch and French origin. Because Spain controlled most of the Caribbean, many of the attacked cities and ships belonged to the Spanish Empire and along the East coast of America and the West coast of Africa. Dutch ships captured about 500 Spanish and Portuguese ships between 1623 and 1638. Some of the best-known pirate bases were New Providence, in the Bahamas from 1715 to 1725, Tortuga established in the 1640s and Port Royal after 1655. The reverse of the coins features a full coloured image of the most famous Caribbean pirates; Edward Teach or Blackbeard, Calico Jack Rackham, Henry Avery and the most successful Bartholomew Roberts. The obverse of the coin features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The four coin Pirates of the Caribbean set is displayed in a replica wooden pirates chest, each set includes a skull and crossbones pendant necklace and a certificate of authenticity with a background on each famous pirate. Each Pirates of the Caribbean set comes with an individually numbered certificate of authenticity issued by New Zealand Mint! We strive for excellent service. A haunted house is a house or other building often perceived as being inhabited by disembodied spirits of the deceased who may have been former residents or were familiar with the property. Parapsychologistsattribute haunting to the spirits of the dead and the effect of violent or tragic events in the building’s past such as murder, accidental death, or suicide. More scientific explanations for the perception that a house is haunted include misinterpreting noises naturally present in structures, waking dreams, suggestibility, and the effect of toxic substances in environments that can cause hallucinations. In a 2005, Gallup poll, 37 percent of Americans, 28 percent of Canadians, and 40 percent of Britons expressed the belief that houses could be “haunted”. The word Halloween is a contraction of All Hallows Eve (Evening). Halloweens Day is always on the 31st of October, and it is a day where the veil between worlds (as in the world of the living versus the world of the dead) is supposed to be thinner than usual. Youre supposed to be more apt to see ghosts (and the souls of the dearly departed) on this day, and some good folks actually spending the day and most particularly the night at haunted locations in an attempt to do so. Others want to avoid seeing ghosts, and that is actually part of the reason why people dress up in intimidating costumes to ward off ghosts, demons and evil spirits. In Spain, Latin America, and Mexico they celebrate Hallowmass, and the third day of that is the most important one its called All Souls Day a. Halloween, the 31st October. But the traditions of dressing up in frightening or funny costumes, apple bobbing, having parades, dancing, having masquerades and rave parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns, lighting bonfires, playing pranks as well as visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories and watching funny or frightening films on this day existed and exists! In other cultures and countries around the world as well. In some countries it is considered a harvest festival, and in Ireland, Cornwall, Brittany, Wales and the Scottish Highlands theres a very old tradition called Samhain (summers end), which has been considered of great importance for ages. This, like Halloween, includes a thinning of the veil between worlds, which means that spirits and fairies and such can visit our world. The kids on Halloween play games (like apple bobbing) and, more importantly, theres guising or trick-or-treating where they dress up in costumes and go from door to door and collect sweets and candy. The Trick or treat? Statement the kids make is actually a (mostly empty) threat to do pranks (play tricks) if they dont get sweets (treats). This tradition goes all the way back to Shakespeares time, because it is mentioned in his play The Two Gentlemen of Verona from 1593.
